Carcar Water District, in cooperation with the local PNP and Barangay LGU, spearheaded the conduct of an Information-Education-Campaign (IEC) on Anti-Violence Against Women in Mahayahay, Guadalupe, Carcar City, on December 12, 2019.

More than a hundred residents, mostly women, attended the event which was mainly organized to educate the attendees of the different forms of abuses under the law, particularly RA 9262- otherwise known as the Anti-VAWC Law, and the rights and remedies of women and their children who are victims of the various forms of abuses.

Police Staff Sargeant Camia Codo of the Carcar City Police Office gave a comprehensive discussion on the different forms of abuse under the Anti-VAWC Law. Ms. Delia Abella, a Barangay Kagawad, elaborated on the procedures and processes involving complaints lodged in the Barangay, from the filing of complaint up to the issuance of a Barangay Protection Order. She explained how she became acquainted and eventually familiarized with different types of complaints, citing her experience as a barangay secretary for more than ten years. VAW desks have been established in every barangay to ensure that incidents of abuse are duly reported and promptly acted upon.

Engr. Edward L. Remo, General Manager of the CWD, also took the opportunity to inform the residents in the area that the services of the water district will be operational before Christmas. Thus, he advised them to visit the office and inquire of the needed documents as well as the applicable fees for application of new service connection.

On the other hand, Ms. Josefa Salvacion N. Manugas, CWD GAD Focal person, assured everyone of the commitment and full support of the water district on GAD related activities, on top of which is the Anti-VAWC Campaign.

The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 to raise awareness among all stakeholders that VAW is a public issue of national concern. It supports the Philippine Government’s goal to protect the human rights of women and its commitment to address all forms of VAW.
